The port expansion project, with a design handling capacity of 5.5 million teu annually, is
anticipated to begin construction in September of this year. It will involve the construction
of four new 200,000 tonnes-class container berths and one 150,000 tonnes-class container
berth.
The overall container handling capacity and efficiency of the port have significantly
increased with the gradual completion of container facility projects at Yangpu ports
Xiaochantan container terminal.
Yangpu port reported a container throughput of 823,000 teu in the first half of 2022, up
45.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
Hainan will open up international transit or direct shipping services from Yangpu to ports
in Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, and other nations in order to substantially boost
transportation services between Hainan and the RCEP zones.
